My Top 5 Affordable Products of 2018

2018 was a year I really got back into make up, and really started to play around a lot more and experiment more with my look and eye looks in particular. However, there were definitely some stand out products for me - ones I completely fell in love with and can't imagine going into 2019 without. so get ready for the first in my series of top 2018 products.

When you blog about beauty products, it's so easy to end up with a sea of different products, so when I find one I use over and over again I know it's a definite winner. I've also done a video on my favourite make up products for 2018 which you can watch here, but here are my top 5 affordable make up products of the year. In other words - if you get any make up products to go into 2019 with, it has to be these. Just a quick spoiler - lip products don't be in this post, or the higher end post because it's going to have it's own post!

So in no particular order....

I discovered this back in February and did a full first impressions video on this, and it's been love ever since. Before this I usually went for matte bases, so I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this as it's definitely a glowy base. I'd seen so many great reviews from over the pond about this, so when it became available in the UK through Amazon I thought I needed to try it out. And I flipping love it, it's completely converted me. I always get compliments on how healthy I look when I wear this, but it's super easy to apply and very lightweight. It gives a great amount of coverage and is very buildable, and doesn't go patchy. For a glowy base, it also lasts really, really well - as well as my favourite high end matte bases. It's been my go to all year round, and I couldn't be without it. I use shades 202 for the colder months, and 203 over summer and the shades have been spot on for me.

Yup, another L'Oreal product, and again one I wasn't expecting to love as much as I do. My Hoola bronzer was running pretty low, so I wanted to try some more affordable options to see if I could find something as good, without the price tag. Now the L'Oreal bronzer isn't a dupe - just throwing that out there. However, here are the things I love about this bronzer. First of all, it's not too pigmented, so when you first swatch or apply it feels a little underwhelming, however I love that you can build this up to get the pigment you want and it still looks very natural. The tone is also perfect for me personally, it's not too warm and it's not too cool, it's just right to warm the face but also help to create some shadow as well. It's also super easy to blend, and lasts really well. I'm a big fan of this product - but not the brush that comes with it, that went straight in the bin...

So, if you saw the video where I first tried this I was very confused and a bit sceptical. I'd never used this product before, in any shade, and if you look at it online and when it comes through it looks like a powder highlighter. Then you touch it, and it's more of a cream, which completely threw me off. However - since I've played around with it a bit more and discovered how best I like to use this I have to say - I'm obsessed. I wear this every single day without fail, none of my other liquid or cream highlighters have even seen the light of day. This just gives such a beautiful natural glow once you've set it all down, it's not overly glittery, it's just beautiful and this shade is absolutely perfect for me. I do put powder highlighter on top, but this acts as a beautiful base if you are just being super natural and want a glow, or it acts as a great primer for powder highlighters and just really helps to amp up the glow. It's stunning and I definitely want to try more of these.

Yup, another Colourpop product - and to be honest I could have put a lot more of them in here as I've loved discovering them this year and haven't found a product yet that I don't love. I have been playing around a lot with eyeshadow palettes this year so there were a few potentials here, but I've just used this palette more than anything else this year even though I didn't get it until end of October. Since I've had it I generally use it every day - yes it's generally a neutral/pink toned palette, but you can get a lot of looks out of this and the quality is insane. Grumpy and Triton are perfect transition shades, and Abu is a great one to really darken the outer corner or crease if you want to use a matte. Ray - I can't even explain how much I love this shade. It's a beautiful champagne metallic (best formulas ever BTW) and I wear it all the time - with other palettes as well. All the shades are very blendable, last really well and I just love this palette.

This was one of the biggest surprises for me this year. I did a video where I tried three different eyeliners over three days to compare, and I was so impressed with this one. It made a lot of promises, such a smudgeproof, waterproof, 24H wear so I was a little (a lot) sceptical, but... I was pleasantly surprised. I obviously haven't worn if for 24 hours, but it wears very well without fading, it stays super black and held up to rain and crying (thank you monthly hormones), and didn't smudge. Not only that, but where the nib is a short, you have so much control over the application. It's so easy to do and I've loved using it. I will definitely be repurchasing once this runs out over my usual Stila favourite. I would highly recommend.

I hope you all liked this post! I'm also going to be doing my top 5 high end products of 2018, and also my top 5 lip sticks of 2018 as well over the next couple of days so make sure you check those out. And in the meantime don't forget to watch my full video on all my favourite make up products from 2018 below.

Much love, Lisa May x
