The Lip Series: My Winter Lips on Rotation

I feel like I might possibly love winter, for the simple fact that I love the lip colours you can get away with at this time of year. Deep tones, rich shades and cool tones. It's basically my favourite time of the year for lipsticks.

You know me, I have a lot of products to choose from, however I've found I have certain shades in rotation at the moment that I wanted to share.

THE EVERYDAY NUDE
I am completely in love with mauve nudes at the moment, give me a cool toned pinky nude and you've got me hooked. The Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint in Fomo (£17) is basically my go to right now. If I want a neutral shade for the day, I dig this out. It's got that beautiful mauve undertone to it, that gives it that wintery edge and is a little darker than your average nude so again, goes with the colder weather and tones of this time of year. In terms of formula, this is a super creamy matte liquid lip that glides on, feels lightweight and comfortable and honestly doesn't budge throughout the day. I have this little sample size but not going to lie - I have ordered a full size as well.

THE BEAUTIFUL BERRY
Everyone needs a berry shade in Winter, whether it's a deep dark tone or a sheer everyday shade. For me, I'm constantly reaching for Mac's Captive at the moment. It's such a gorgeous tone - one I'm obsessed with. It has the cool toned berry shade, but it's rich and warming to the complexion at the same time. This is one of their satin finishes, which has fast become my favourite, so it's long lasting without being matte. I feel like this is the perfect day to night shade as well, as you can wear it during the day without it looking to OTT and dramatic, but then it's also the perfect evening shade to help add a bit of sass to your look.

THE RICH RED
Red is an essential in everyone's collection as far as I'm concerned - or it should be. And in Winter, the berry reds come out to play. The rich tones, and the deep shades. Usually every Winter I turn to my Rimmel Kate 107, or the Only Matte in The Matte Factor. However, this year I've gone for a slightly different kind of shade. Mac's Retro is unlike any red I've seen, or tried before. It's a very rich, brown toned red - not something I usually reach for but I am obsessed with it. If you go simple on the make up for day you can wear this as well, however I love it for a night time look. It adds so much drama and something a bit extra to your look. Again, it's a satin finish so it's long wearing, but super comfortable and really pigmented.

L-R: Tarte Fomo | Mac Retro | Mac Captive

And that's it! I have loved these shades, and I'm obsessed with cooler, slightly darker tones this year. With Spring on it's way (maybe) I'm sure my lip look will change so I'll keep you updated, but in the meantime definitely check these shades out.

What's your favourite winter lip shade?

Much love, Lisa May x
