Life | Saying Goodbye

One of the hardest things in life is to say goodbye. Whether it be to a memory, job, hobby or a friend. I hate the word goodbye. It sounds so final and I hate the idea of never again. For me I've just had to say a massive goodbye to a huge part of my life, my job. I'm moving to another company, but the move brings on a lot of changes, and a part of me is reluctant to let go.

The job I'm leaving was the catalyst for massive life changes for me. Before I had this job I was hating my retail job, struggling to save for a house and find a mortgage with my long term boyfriend. My self esteem and confidence was low and everything was just a bit meh. Then I got this job and suddenly everything changed. This job symbolizes a lot for me, which is why I'm struggling to let go.

However, it is time to say goodbye and I've been trying to find ways to help me say goodbye.
  • Focus on the things you won't miss - which for me is the 5am alarm, train delays, two hour commute and the £5k travel cost
  • Make an effort with those you're leaving behind - the main thing I'll miss is some of the people. However, for me it's just a case of making the effort to keep in touch.
  • Take what you've learnt with you - just because you're leaving one thing it doesn't mean you can't take your lessons from the old and be grateful for them
  • Remember why you're saying goodbye - there's a reason you're leaving it behind. Hold onto that, and remember you're leaving for the right reasons.
Certain things have happened since decided to say goodbye that have also may it a lot easier for me to let go and move on. Drama is something I don't like having in my life and it's something that came up a lot at the end, so I'm more than happy to let that go.
I also found this quote - I think I saw it on twitter somewhere - but it just sums it up for me.

"There are better things ahead than any we leave behind" - C.S. Lewis

I am so excited for the next journey in my career, I cannot wait to start fresh and forge new friendships and build new foundations. Bring, it, on.
